Eligibility
The NIC content experts, under the guidance of psychometricians, have established comparability between the NIC Knowledge (written) Test and the previous written test utilized for RID certification.
Therefore, any currently certified member in good standing of RID has already proven his or her competency through the current certification they hold and is exempt from having to take the NIC Knowledge (written) test. This includes NAD certified members as well as RID certified members holding the CSC, IC/TC, IC and TC. These certified members may take the NIC Interview and Performance test without taking the NIC Knowledge test.
You do not need to be a member of RID to apply for a test; however, one of the benefits of RID membership is lower testing fees.
To receive the reduced member rate, you must be an RID member in good standing and include your member ID number from your membership card (or profile) on the testing application.
If you would like to pay the member rate, but are not a member, join online and you can register for a test the same day (Associate members only). You will not receive the reduced member rate if you apply for RID membership and register for an NIC test at the same time using the paper applications.
Member fees for testing apply to the Certified, Associate or Student categories only.
Persons eligible to take the performance test include:
- Candidates for certification for either the RID Generalist Written test or the NIC Knowledge Test. Candidates for certification have up to five (5) years from the date they passed the written test to take and pass at least one of the performance tests (90.01). If a candidate fails to take and pass at least one of the performance tests within the five-year time frame, s/he will be required to reapply for the written test and pay all related fees.
- Currently certified members of RID holding one of the following certificates: CI, CT, CSC, MCSC, IC, TC, IC/TC, NAD III, NAD IV, NAD V.
Candidates are encouraged to register for preferred test location(s) well in advance, as slots fill quickly. Testing slots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
